I’ve put together a little graph to see what sort of progress has been done since Sylpheed-0.4.67claws1…
Here it is: http://claws.sylpheed.org/timeline.php. Hover over the red stars for details.
Interesting how there are less downloads recently. I don’t think our user base is vanishing, so what could cause that?
- SourceForge changed their statistics
- More distros package Sylpheed-Claws
- People don’t upgrade each time now that we’re more stable
- People use snapshots (not counted there)
- Less different files released
- …?
nice :) i just looked it up and i guess i started with claws 0.7.5, at least that’s my oldest email with claws i can find :)
regarding the downloads, i’m nearly always using cvs so that won’t count either.

Also, the users mailing list got a little less active recently. Maybe the progress in main drove some users back to main (whose users-ML got more active). Main also has a similar but higher version number, which might have a psychological effect (though I’m _NOT_ voting for a version number race).
I think the « more distros package Sylpheed-Claws » joined with
Sylpheed-Claws gaining popularity in those distros are the key factors.
I can just guess: maybe it’s also becuase the official Win32 port was dropped. Although I can understand that no one wanted to maintain it, it’s still a pity. So maybe some people take the Cygwin port (which isn’t in the statistic), some go to Sylpheed which has an actively maintained Win32 port.
That could be an explanation.
Leonidas: very true. Apart that it’s actually ‘no one could maintain it’, as none of the still active developers use Windows.
Werner Koch is trying to do some work in this area, but his build available in the gpg4win.org package isn’t complete, and lacks important things like IMAP support or SSL support…
